Ninety-Three Points and a Second Straight Win. Is Chicago Finally Finding Some Consistency?
CHICAGO — For the second consecutive game, the Chicago Sky walked off the court with something that had become difficult to find this season: a victory.
CHICAGO — For the second consecutive game, the Chicago Sky walked off the court with something that had become difficult to find this season: a victory.
Chicago defeated the New York Liberty 93–86 on Tuesday, improving to 14–22 and extending its winning streak to two games.
The performance was an important offensive response against an established opponent.
Two days earlier, Chicago had escaped Seattle with an 82–80 victory. Against New York, the Sky scored 11 more points while maintaining enough separation to finish with a seven-point win.
The contrast between the two victories is worth examining.
In Seattle, Chicago held its opponent to 80 points. At home against New York, the Sky produced 93 of their own.
Those results suggest Chicago doesn't need every game to unfold the same way to find success.
That matters for a team attempting to develop a sustainable identity.
The Sky have experienced too many stretches this season in which an encouraging performance was immediately followed by another setback.
Now, they've put together consecutive victories.
At 14–22, Chicago still has considerable work ahead. Two wins don't fundamentally change the team's position, and the consistency problems that have affected the season remain important.
But winning consecutive games against Seattle and New York gives the Sky something tangible to build upon.
Golden State visits Friday.
For Chicago, the next test is whether a two-game improvement can become a legitimate winning streak.
