CHICAGO — The Chicago Sky didn't need another 90-point performance Friday night.
They needed enough stops and enough scoring to finish three points ahead of Golden State.
Chicago delivered, defeating the Valkyries 73–70 and extending its winning streak to three games.
Natasha Cloud led the Sky with 17 points, providing important offense in a game where scoring opportunities came at a premium.
The team identified this as Chicago's first three-game winning streak since 2023.
More importantly, the three victories have come in different scoring environments.
Against Seattle, Chicago won 82–80. Against New York, the Sky produced 93 points. Against Golden State, 73 was enough.
There is no single formula connecting those performances, but the results show Chicago finding ways to compete despite changes in how games unfold.
The Golden State matchup also offered a measure of defensive progress.
Chicago held the Valkyries to 70 points, an improvement on the 80 and 86 points it allowed in the first two games of this winning streak.
For a team that has surrendered several high-scoring performances this season, that's an encouraging result.
The challenge is sustaining it.
Chicago improved to 15–22 with the victory, but the Sky remain a team attempting to overcome a difficult first half of the season.
Indiana was next on Chicago’s schedule for August 23.
After three consecutive wins, Chicago has an opportunity to demonstrate that this recent stretch represents meaningful progress rather than a temporary improvement.
